The Ryzhkov Library
On November 7, 1994, a meeting of the Board of Trustees endorsed and actively supported the initiative of Nikolai Ryzhkov to establish a collection of his personal books in the public library in the house of the clergy at the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
The Board of Trustees decided to accept a proposal to create a book Fund called the Ryzhkov Library, and appealed to members of the public, the clergy, the publishers, organizations and individuals to fund library books.
The Ryzhkov Library was opened in May 1995, with the blessing of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II.

The library is located in a small room within the house of the clergy by the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. There were 5000 books on the opening day. It all began with a valuable gift from Nikolai Ivanovich Ryzhkov. From his personal library he donated 2 thousand books on various subjects. Books and sketchbooks included valuable spiritual and Orthodox literature. These included a Bible with engravings by Gustave Dore , books on the history of Russia, Moscow and the history of the Russian State. Classics of world literature, reference books and encyclopedias were also added.
The first donors participating in the popular library project were the Governor of Belgorod region E.S. Savchenko, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II, Ioann, the Archbishop of Belgorod and Stary Oskol, the Russian Children's Foundation, headed by Albert Likhanov, as well as famous writers and publicists.
The Board of Trustees decided to give the library the cultural-historic name of "the Ryzhkov Library of Prokhorovka ".
The library gradually was recognized not only in Prokhorovka and area, but also outside the region. In one year the library was visited by more than 4 thousand people, and the book stock doubled. The rapid growth resulted from the fine example of donors, and was followed by numerous visitors who have visited the memorial complex and library.
The replenishment of Funds has always been a concern for popular libraries. Not only individuals, but also organizations, enterprises, educational institutions, publishing houses were in small areas with the literature library address. These included the Russian State youth library, the publishing and trading company "Academy-Center», the publishing house Armada" Vagrius " Others included " Aquarius "," Olma-press "," Thought "," Roman-Gazeta "," Resurrection "," Voice "," Spiritual Heritage " and" Sovremennik ".
The library received new momentum in its development in May 1999 when it moved into the new building of the cultural-historical centre. Information about moving libraries in Prokhorovka was widely covered in the media.

People have now learned about the library both in Russia and abroad. Thousands of Russians, as well as residents of neighboring countries have become regular visitors to Prokhorovka. Many of them have contributed to the library. Vladimir Stasov, a well-known literary critic, said about these people "all these examples of generosity and benevolence by selected individuals have benefited its people. Respect should be shown for the examples of which you cannot see”.
The library currently has over 60 thousand volumes. There are fine works of art including A.Pushkin, M. Lermontov, A.Chekhov, L.Tolstoy, M.Bulgakov, A. Akhmatova, M.Tsvetaeva, N. Gumilev, B. Pasternak, A. Solzhenitsyn, T. Dreiser, W. Scott, F. Cooper. There are also books of many other well-known Russian and foreign authors.
The library has rich literature on many historical themes including K. Valishevsky’s “ The Daughter of Peter the Great”, “The Son of Catherine the Great," “The First Romanovs, works of D.Merezhkovsky “ The Resurrected Gods”, “ Peter and Alexey”, M. Aldanov’s “ Suicide”, D. Mordovtsev’s “ The Great Split”, “ The Tsar and the Hetman”, “ The State Carpenter” and collections of works by Gilyarovsky, Danilevsky, Zagoskin and Zhdanov.
Great value is represented within the literature on art. In the library there are magnificent albums including "the Divine Art of Russia", "Icons of Novgorod in the 12th to 17th centuries, the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, State Museum-preserve «Peterhof”, Fedoskino, Ilya Repin, Ilya Glazunov. Of particular interest is the album of reproductions of the People’s Artist of the USSR Shilov, given by the author.
The Fund also has sections on detective, adventure, science-fiction genres, as well as literature on all branches of knowledge. The library is systematically updated.
The book "the Moscow Kremlin at the Turn of the Millennium" was presented by Vladimir Putin with the inscription: "in a sign of deep respect and gratitude for preserving memories and the feat of the Soviet people in war against fascism”.

Since the opening of the library thousands of tourists have visited the library from various regions of Russia. Among them are people of various occupations, hobbies and ages. Almost everyone, whether a famous writer, poet, painter, statesman, politician or private citizen have donated a library book, and often an entire book collection leaving within each copy a message. These have not just been formal inscriptions, but signatures of the authors indicating the love with which these books were collected.
Within the Special Value Fund is a compilation of spiritual literature – these include gifts from the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II (1990-2008), Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the complete series of "the World literature Library” from Ioann, the Archbishop of Belgorod and Stary Oskol.
The library includes books, donated by the Governor of Belgorod region E.S. Savchenko, Members of the State Duma, entrepreneurs, writers, including laureates of the literary and patriotic readings from Prokhorovka.
In addition to excellent books, in the library there are valuable gifts and souvenirs, presented by N. I. Ryzhkov and guests visiting the Prokhorovka Field Memorial.

Nikolai Ryzhkov sent unusual souvenirs to the library. Also there is the Ural Jasper, head of the Buddha, God of Wisdom, "Christmas plate-2000 years", etc.
In the Museum Hall of the library there is an exhibition of materials, an historical profile of erecting the Memorial at Prokhorovka. The photographs reflect milestones in the construction of the monument of victory on the tank field and of the Peter and Paul Cathedral. The halls of the library are decorated by a few canvases and medals from his personal collection. Also from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Crimea, the President of Egypt, the President of the Republic of Mozambique, the Prime Ministers of Norway and the Republic of Mongolia and the Governments of France, Austria, Vietnam.

The Ryzhkov Library is part of the Prokhorovka Museum and the Memorial institution because its priorities are to work on heroic-patriotic and spiritual aspects. The main objective of this work is the knowledge of military patriotic youth literature giving an enormous educational boost to the project.
Evenings are sometimes scheduled to work on military-patriotic themes which are timed to the memorable dates of Russian military history. There are also exhibitions which educate readers about aspects of the history of World War II, the battle of Kursk at Prokhorovka. These books and materials are chosen to remind the reader about heroism.

The library has long since become the venue for a traditional evening to commemorate victory day, the day of liberation of Prokhorovka from fascist invaders, regular anniversaries of the Prokhorovka tank battle. There are planned lessons about patriotism with students from the grammar school, these include " Prokhorovka in the years of the Great Patriotic War, February 6, 1943- the second birthday of Prokhorovka ', ' women in a soldier's trench". Here students learn many new things about the history of our area, the battle and the work of past residents.

Within the library there are organized thematic reviews of literature, presentations of books, and information to view. A variety of new technology is used for large audiences including audio and video equipment and computers but the main resource still is the book.
There is great attention in all activities to spiritual enlightenment and the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the nation, facilitated by the proximity of the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.

A considerable contribution to the moral education of youth is the traditional literary and patriotic “ Prokhorovka” readings, organised on the initiative of the Board of Trustees of Prokhorovka, headed by its Chairman Nikolai I. Ryzhkov and the Governor of Belgorod region E.S. Savchenko. This event brings together writers and poets from all over Russia-Tambov, Pskov, Voronezh, Moscow, Orel, Smolensk, as well as neighboring countries.

Talking about the significance of patriotic readings, his Grace Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol noted that Prokhorovka readings should show the reader around the world that Russia has always liked to protect the Homeland, including the spiritual; Prokhorovka readings is the same battle for everyone born in our country.
The Ryzhkov Library attracts visitors by a unique Endowment Fund giving quality service, extensive information resources and technical capabilities of the computer room. Work is carried out in close liaison with the Division for youth, Prokhorovka's administration, the home of children's creativity, Prokhorovka grammar school, kindergartens, children's home-school to the Orthodox boys ' orphanage with aesthetic direction and the nursing home- the House of veterans.
Much work is being done with Prokhorovka grammar school. The library is a channel for continuing education and provides through an educational process the promotion of reading. Prokhorovka grammar school has gained a decent, fair and reliable partner. Library staff are willing to assist in educational and extra curricular activities.
The library assists the public in obtaining knowledge relating to ecology, law, health, culture, art and the history of the Russian people. The history of the people is its pride and wealth. The library plays a major role in the conservation of popular traditions. We use a variety of styles and methods of learning. The objective of such events is the revival of national traditions, thereby fostering the development of spiritual culture and traditions of folklore.

In the library there is a video room, a cinema club-based Patriot-voluntary association which promotes child enrichment and access of additional knowledge on the history of national cinema.
In addition to meetings, in the show room there is a community cinema with various subject sections arranged by topic and age groups. The emphasis is on selections of artistic value with social and cognitive orientation.
The Foundation library is extremely diverse. It has more than 3500 films on various subjects. Among them are films based on works by Russian and foreign classics including "Crime and Punishment", "Scarlet Sails», Cruel Romance», «The Gold Calf"and "The Night Before Christmas".
The library has released a film for the Jubilee 55th anniversary of the great victory in the series "World War II". It included 16 films about World War II including "Here the Dawn is Quiet" The Story of a Real Man ", The Flight of the Cranes," Wait for Me "," The Living and the Dead. "

Interesting television documentaries about the destiny of modern orthodox Russia have been made. These include "Holy Belogorye: holidays and weekdays”, Holy Belogorye: the Second Christening". These films have been released with the blessing of Ioann, the Archbishop of Belgorod and Stary Oskol and devoted to the 2000 anniversary of the Birth of Christ, and the 5-anniversary of the revival of the Belgorod-Stary Oskol diocese. They tell about restoring the traditions of spiritual life of Holy Belogorye.
For about two and a half centuries the Hermitage has been gathering the largest collection of about three million works of art and monuments of world culture. Today, using modern technologies, all the splendor of the Museum can be seen on video. In equipping the video Center a set of 12 video cassettes "Treasures of the Hermitage" was included.

As a structural unit of the Prokhorovka State military-historical Museum, the library is visited by thousands of people from Russia, CIS and other countries.
During its existence, the library has become a favorite spot for all residents to spend their free time in clubs on interests, view favorite films in the show room, visit the interesting educational activities or just sit in the reading room with a magazine in their hands.
Currently the Ryzhkov Library meets all modern requirements for such an establishment, the employees try to constantly improve, looking for new methods and forms of work with users.
